Privacy Policy
The Global Association for Transition Engineering (GATE) is committed to protecting any personal information that you may provide to us. In particular, we believe it is important for you to know how we treat information about you that we may receive from this Web site.
Information Collected
In general, you can visit this Web site without telling us who you are or revealing any information about yourself. Our web servers collect the domain names, not the e-mail addresses, of visitors. In addition, there are portions of this Web site where we may need to collect personal information from you for a specific purpose, such as to provide you with certain information you request. The information collected from you may include your name, address, telephone, fax number, or e-mail address.
This Web site is not intended for persons under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly solicit or collect personal information from or about children, and we do not knowingly market our products or services to children.

What information is collected
The information we collect includes, but is not limited to, your title, first name, surname, gender, date of birth, nationality, your qualifications, home and work contact details (phone, fax, email, postal address and email address). We also collect information relating to your employment including where you are currently employed, your job title, areas of special interest/expertise and your job function.
As part of the membership application process we also collect additional information relating to your qualifications (proof of completion, academic transcripts), proof of your date of birth (driving licence or birth certificate). We ask you to provide names of sponsors and/or supervisors in support of your application and in some cases we ask you to provide contact information for these sponsors/supervisors. When paying for a product, subscription fees, merchandise, application, transfer and professional interview fees by credit or debit card, we temporarily store the details until the transaction has been completed.
Use of Collected Information
Domain name information that we collect is not used to personally identify you and instead is aggregated to measure the number of visits, average time spent on the site, pages viewed, etc. We use this information to measure the use of our site and to improve the content of our site.
When other information is collected from you, such as your name and e-mail address, we generally let you know at the time of collection how we will use the personal information. Usually, we use the personal information you provide only to respond to your inquiry or to process your request or to provide better services to all of our members and contacts – particularly in relation to the technical events we run, the journals we produce and the reports we write on subjects linked to our Charter – environment, water engineering and science.
When you are on GATE’s website and are asked for personal information, you are sharing that information with GATE alone unless stated otherwise. For example, when you are using our secure online payment pages you are going through to a partner company such as NetBanx Ltd or PayPal, and it is clear on the payment page when you are going through to the NetBanx or PayPal sites, the information you give such as your credit card number and contact information is provided so that the transaction can take place. GATE does not store credit card details for any such transactions.
We may share the personal information you provide with other companies we have hired to provide services for us. These companies – our vendors – are contractually bound to use personal information we share with them only to perform the services we have hired them to provide.
We may provide your email address and other necessary details to the GATE branches, groups, panels and netwtworks to which you belong for the purpose of notifying you about events and activities.
For members who live outside the UK, data may also be transferred to the local branch.
We do not share, sell, or lease personal information about you to any third-parties for their marketing use. We will release information about you if you direct us to do so, if we are required by law to do so, or in other legally limited circumstances (for example, to protect your account from fraud).
If you indicated that you are interested in receiving regular information such as GATE’s News, we will send you communications regarding GATE’s work and activities, either electronically or otherwise.
