Transition Engineering Standards Projects
GATE is forming Standards working groups to write and submit ISO standards for the key tools and processes in Transition Engineering. The fundamental aspects of first of these tools have been described in the textbook, Transition Engineering, Building a Sustainable Future (2019). As professional engineers are aware, fundamentals developed by researchers and published in peer-reviewed journals are a part of standards, but it falls to practicing professionals to write, review and vet useful standards. Compliance with standards is the mechanism by which professional engineering effectiveness, reliability and liability are ensured.
Current ISO Standards Relating to Sustainability
ISO 37101:2016 Sustainable development in communities — Management system for sustainable development — Requirements with guidance for use
ISO 14031:2021 Environmental management — Environmental performance evaluation — Guidelines
